Driving Rules in North Cyprus: A Guide for Tourists
Driving in North Cyprus is generally safe and straightforward, but there are a few key rules every visitor should know. Traffic flows on the left-hand side of the road, similar to the UK, and seat belts are mandatory for all passengers. Using a mobile phone while driving is strictly prohibited unless a hands-free system is used.
Speed limits are clearly signposted: typically 50 km/h in urban areas, 65 km/h on open roads, and up to 100 km/h on highways. Speed cameras are common, and fines are strictly enforced, so staying within limits is important. Roundabouts are frequent, and vehicles already inside have the right of way, so always approach carefully.
Road conditions are generally good, but narrow or winding roads may appear in rural areas. Be extra cautious during night drives, as street lighting can be limited outside cities.
At British Rent a Car, we ensure our customers are fully informed about local driving rules before they begin their journey, helping you drive safely and confidently.
